About Us
We're planning to launch in June of 2011! Unlike the huge group-buy sites, we're not focusing on an international (or even a national) market -- for right now, we're just seeing what we can find in Ankeny, IA and the immediate surrounding areas.
My reason for this had a lot to do with how I'd gotten used to using the major group buy sites while I was in Oklahoma -- the deals were accessible and close. Up here, though, very few deals are actually run IN Ankeny, and with rising gas prices, I don't really want to drive south of Indianola to use a group deal voucher. You probably don't either.
So the plan is this:
Stuff we'd actually be interested in buying: Or stuff that's useful. I'm planning on contacting (and hoping to be contacted by) fun, family-friendly (and couples-friendly) restaurants, attractions, retail outlets, and more. Everything from massage therapy (hey, that's what I did in Oklahoma!) to doughnuts and salads and oil changes and whatever else we can find in and around Ankeny (and Slater and Johnston and maybe Altoona from time to time.)
Straight-forward terms and conditions: I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV. I'm willing to bet you don't either. It's such a pain when things get all complicated and you have to pretend you've read this lengthy list of terms and conditions just to get from A to B. So we're not going to do that. All the fine print you'll want to know will be listed up front (under 'fine print') before you even buy the deal. And we'll keep it short and easy to understand, I promise. If you really want to read through all the legal-ese, we've got privacy policy and terms of service pages down there at the bottom.
Customer service: Okay, to be right up front, there's only one of me right now. But I'm only anticipating there NEEDING to be one of me right now. If you need anything, you can cut straight to emailing katie@exploretheattic.com. That's where all of the other email addresses right now are forwarding to :) If you have a complaint (or a compliment!) about a business, let me know. I'll do whatever I can to get it taken care of. I know I hate it when things on the internet are frustrating -- no need to put you guys through that!
How we're different: By local, I mean local. Keeping things IN and very close to Ankeny means lower transportation costs (time AND gasoline) for us as customers and better return rates overall for the local businesses. If something's ever substantially further away from home, it's just 'cause I thought that deal was especially awesome and worth the drive.
And...not daily deals: We're going to start off with just about one a week, both to give us some time to get a substantial number of businesses involved and to give you guys time to adjust to all this. I'd like to move it up to 4-5/week by the end of the year but we'll see how it goes!
